"The
pensioners have found it an enormous pleasure to have the student's
good company each week; from what I can see many are noticeably cheered
by it". C Danos, care co-ordinator.
Griffin
house in Poplar, East London, built in 1997 by the Griffin Community
Trust, provides accommodation for 23 medical and dental students
attending Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. All of
the students befriend an elderly resident of Shaftesbury lodge, a
sheltered accommodation situated next door to Griffin House. The
students organise events and excursions throughout the academic year
for the residents of Shaftesbury.
