The Dogs
We've all gone to the dogs.
Going
to the dogs has always been an East London tradition. There are several
tracks nearby be it at Romford or Walthamstow. Students and Shaftesbury
residents meet in the early evening to board coaches to the track. We
are seated in the comfortable resaurant in the stands of the stadium.
From our table we have an excellent view of the whole track but in case
we need a closer look at the dogs, the races are broadcast on
television sets dotted around the tables. As we work our way through
the menu the stadium staff come to take our bets at the table, you
don't even need to get up.
There is a race every fifteen minutes or so, if you don't fancy betting
on one race there'll be another one right along. When everyone's full
to the brim with food and have (usually) lost their cash on the dogs
it's all aboard the coaches for the trip home. Always a fun trip!
