Garden Party
The biggest Griffin event of the year!!
The
Griffin garden party takes place in June in the garden of Shaftesbury
Hall (weather permitting). All the students pull together to organise a
great event enjoyed by the Shaftesbury residents and those involved
with the Griffin Trust. Past events have included a mammoth chocolate
fountain, ice sculptures, live music, and a cocktail bar. When the
Garden party clashed with England playing in the world cup, a big
screen was set up for all to enjoy the match.
The garden
party is usually the last event in the academic year organised by the
students before they knuckle down to tackle their end of year exams.
Other events in the year are organised by just two or three students
each, the garden party is different, everyone is allotted a job to do,
be it decorations, food, drinks, music, posters........
The event is held on a saturday lunchtime, the students get up early to
begin decorating the garden preparing the food and drinks, blowing up
balloons, and selecting the music.
A buffet
lunch is put on as everyone chats and (hopefully) enjoys the sun. The
2007 Garden party was a special event to mark the tenth
anniversary of Griffin House. Griffin alumni are invited to the garden
party which gives them a chance to catch up with the residents that
they used to visit, and to meet the current crop of Griffinites.
The Shaftesbury and Griffin residents alike all look forward to the event and talk about it for a long time afterwards.
