Race Night
All the fun of the Gee Gees from the comfort of your armchair.
Roll
up ladies and gents and place your bets on the nag that the
tipsters have napped to come in by a nose, or something like
that. You don't need to be an expert on either horse racing or gambling
to have a fun evening on race night. Races are brought to life on a big
screen in the Shaftesbury common room. The evening is organised by an
outside company that provides a compere to talk you through the process
of placing your bets. Everyone is given their share of the monopoly
money with which to place on the horse of their choice. Students act as
runners between the cashier and the residents, helping them to place
their bets before the next race.
There's plenty of tea and cakes to be had between the races, but when
the horses are off everyone is cheering on their chosen philly. At the
end of the night everyone counts up their winnings (if they're lucky),
the best gamblers win prizes for their efforts. The losers are left to
console themselves with another cake!
